Back in the beginning of this year, Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida rejected high school students’ access to a Advanced Placement (AP) course: AP African American studies. DeSantis, a Republican politician, ultimately chose to ban this course as he states that the studies focus too much on political agendas, queer studies, and a plethora of other topics one may argue DeSantis are too uncomfortable with. Many Black officials argue that DeSantis’s reasoning is invalid. These topics, which are incorporated into the class for mere educational purposes, have been banned entirely because it does not fit on DeSantis’s agenda. This will indefinitely impact future classes.
