Just a few days ago, the notorious Florida Department of Education banned yet another Advanced Placement course- this time, it is AP Psychology. Their reasoning for such a decision bases itself on the course’s topics, some of which include sexual orientation and gender identity. Under state law, teaching students these topics are illegal. Removing students’ ability to take this course with school returning in a matter of days will be certainly damaging. It will teach upcoming high school students that said topics are unable to be discussed in the real world and will place a strain on relationships and ultimately, one’s own self.
