Did you know the United States Senate has something known as “The Candy Desk”? The Senate, comprised of 100 senators (two from each state) and known for voting on treaties, amendments, and motions, houses a desk near a Senate entrance filled with candy; in fact, this desk is REQUIRED to have candy at all times. This candy desk was inspired by California Senator, George Murphy, back in 1965 when he wanted snacks after long conference meetings. There has been a plethora of different delicacies in this drawer ranging from candy produced by small-towns to the infamous Hershey’s chocolate, and it is the job of a senator who sits near this desk to keep the ongoing supply of candy. Fun…right?
